Summary

This is the last section of Part III, and the novel. The perspective opens with Fareeda now in spring of 1997. Sarah has still had no offers of a suitor and Fareeda is worried. Nadine is pregnant with her second child, and Fareeda wonders if Isra will get pregnant again, but recognizes a flatness in Isra’s face. Fareeda sits on the stoop until Sarah gets home to get to the bottom of why Sarah does not have any suitors. When Sarah gets home she confronts her, asking what she has done. Sarah says she has done nothing, and Fareeda grabs her by the hair and starts beating her. They go inside and Fareeda is on top of her, beating her with her slipper, and grabbing her throat and choking her. She tells Sarah she is doing all of this for her. The perspective...
