Summary
This is the last section of Part 2, and starts with Fareeda’s perspective in spring of 1994 while she waits for Khaled to bring home groceries. Sarah says she could get them for her and Fareeda is exasperated, saying unmarried girls do not go out alone, and that she did not raise Sarah to be an American. Later Fareeda sits with Khaled, Ali, and Omar. Khaled asks Ali about college and Ali says he does not see the point, which makes Khaled explode with anger about the sacrifices he has made. Fareeda knows Ali will never know what they went through as refugees to get him here. Fareeda tells Khaled they cannot force Ali to go to college, and they know they have Adam to help them with money. She thinks about how silent Adam has become lately, and how she knew he was...
