Wander

Note: The main character, a wolf, is referred to as Wander throughout this guide to avoid confusion.

Wander is a wolf and the main character of the novel. As a pup, his name is Swift. However, he introduces himself as Wander when, as a mature wolf, he meets his mate, Night. Wander is one of five pups born in his litter. His brothers are Sharp and Warm, and his sisters are Pounce and Wag. Wander is the fastest of his litter while Sharp is the strongest. Even as a youngster, Wander is entranced by the role of the leader, and he studies Father because he wants to become the leader of the pack someday. He shows his determination to this goal by ignoring the playtime of the others in order to spend time with Father, listening and learning.
