Summary
The second part of the novel, called “At Clairedelune” begins with the chapter, “The Key.” Disguised in a valet’s uniform, Ophelia rode in the glamorous Antechamber, the only means of transportation to Archibald’s estate, Clairdelune. She asked Berenilde if she was worried about going to Clairedelune, but Berenilde insisted that she was not because the estate was a diplomatic sanctuary safe from conspiring. When they arrived, Berenilde asked Gustave, the head butler, about the current state of affairs in Clairdelune. She met Archibald, whose seven younger sisters from the Web clan accompanied him. Archibald invited Berenilde to dance. In “Fox,” Ophelia was unsure how to proceed as a servant. She met another servant named Fox, who helped her out. He offered to teach her about the inner workings of Clairdelune if she would give him her first ten green sandglasses. The...
