Summary

Chapter 5 begins with an anecdote from June, 2018. Trump attended the G7 summit of world leaders. Trump did not take the event seriously, and he insulted the other leaders present. The author states that Trump only seems to have respect for brutal dictators such as Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un. Trump’s foreign policy is completely inverted form what it should be, as Trump actively alienates America’s allies, fawns over its enemies, and has abandoned all notion of America as an international protector of freedom and democracy. Trump apparently has no interest in nurturing bonds with international allies, and he even seems to sabotage those bonds. In addition, Trump’s foreign policy is similar to his domestic policy in that both are quite unpredictable and are not based on facts, information, or consistent principles.
