Boston is the capital and most populous city of the state of Massachusetts. Georgiana was born and raised in Boston. She studied music there and worked as a music teacher at Boston conservatory. In late 1860s, at about the age of 30, she eloped and moved to Nebraska. In the story’s main narrative, she returns to Boston for the first time, at about the age of 60. Her nephew Clark takes her to an orchestra concert, as she has not seen one in 30 years. She is deeply moved by the concert and dreads returning to her rural Nebraska life.
