Summary
In Chapter Eleven, Hafold discovers that the Queen has been being poisoned with niamroot, causing her catatonic state. The maid tells Hafold that Gareth had ordered her to give the queen the poison but that she hadn’t known what she was giving her. Hafold gives the queen an antidote to the poison and she soon begins moving and speaking. Hafold tells her that Gareth had been poisoning her. Although Hafold tells the queen that they need to go to Silesia to take refuge, the queen insists on confronting her son. She finds him sitting in her late husband’s destroyed study. Gareth charges his mother with a dagger. She dodges him and knocks him in the head with a statue. She leaves him swearing never to go back to King’s Court again.
