Summary

In Chapter Nine, Gwen and her group enter the city of Silesia. As she enters the gates of the well-enforced city, she thinks they might be able to hold off Andronicus’ army here. The happy people of Silesia welcome Gwen and offer her a red silk cloak worn by Silesia’s former first lady. The people salute her. Later that day, in her castle chamber, Gwen looks out over the canyon. She thinks of her feelings of insecurity about ruling and wonders what he father would have done in the same situation. She walks up to the roof where she hears a familiar voice. It is Alton, the man whom she hates most. He has snuck past the guards and has come to suggest to her that she needs a king.
