Summary

Chapter One begins with a description of Andronicus’ destruction of the McCloud kingdom and his act of deforming McCloud with a brand on his face. Andronicus’ men have killed all of the people and set fire to the town before leaving it. He plans to build his own city in the place that was once protected as part of the Ring.

In Chapter Two, Erec stands his ground as troops from Balster come to fight him. He feels justified in the fight because a lord from this place has taken his bride from him. Although the lord had been given a chance to make his wrong actions right, he had not taken advantage of the opportunity. Now he is dead.
