Village

The village is the short story's primary setting. Years prior to the narrative present, Fletcher lived in the village. During this era, he gained a significant following for his progressive political beliefs. However, upon returning to the village, Fletcher finds the place almost entirely unrecognizable. The streets are too narrow for his body, and the cottages look easily-destructible. Throughout his brief stay in the village, Fletcher encounters a series of individuals who both admire and disdain him.
