Summary
The narrator says that the doctors "poisoned the boy exquisitely," referring to his chemotherapy treatment (9). The chemotherapy appears in an array of different colors, and while Titania does not want to know the particulars of the medicine, Oberon is intrigued. He has another lesser fairy named Doorknob try one of the boy's treatments. Doorknob complains about the taste before going mad, and he has to be sedated for weeks before he returns to normal. The boy, however, responds differently to the medication: his pain eases and he becomes peaceful. One day he wakes up and asks for a cheese sandwich, and Titania and Oberon instruct all the fairies to bring the boy bread and cheese.
