Summary
This section of the guide focuses on pages 43-65. Raja, now imprisoned in a steel cage, quickly grows to miss the freedom and power he once had. Under the control of Captain, he is starved and grows weak. Taking him to a large caged enclosure in a circus, Captain sets about breaking Raja's spirit and tames him using a whip and a chair (43). During his first excursion in the enclosure, Raja is aware of being watched by many other animals, including ones he has never encountered before, and he feels he is being made an example of by Captain. One of the animals speaks to Raja, telling him that the only way to stop the pain of the whippings is to do as Captain commands; he is made to run in circles around the arena, and Captain is pleased at the progress.
