Summary

Chapter 25, "Eris", is the story of Eris, goddess of strife. She hates being alone but she often finds herself isolated by the Olympian gods, forced to stay in "the dark recesses of her cave dwelling" on Mount Olympus (199). Even her brother Ares, with whom she had once been close, can’t stand to be around her. Although this is because she conspired with Hephaestus to expose Ares’ affair with Aphrodite by catching them in the act. However, Eris seems to have forgotten her involvement: she "had a hazy memory of seeing the bedroom itself" where the two lovers were caught in the strong golden threads Hephaestus had forged as a net to catch them in (201).
