Summary

In Chapter 11, Winona’s gunshot wound grows more and more painful. She hallucinates seeing her mother and runs toward her before falling unconscious. When Winona wakes again, she realizes she is alone again, laying in an unfamiliar room. She no longer has her gun and she is too weak to get out of the bed. She panics when Jas opens the door and walks in with a doctor. He tells the doctor he needs to remove the bullet and save Winona’s life. The doctor asks Jas why he is so interested in marrying an Indian girl. When Jas leaves the room, Winona asks Dr. Tharpe to notify Lige Magan where she is because she is Jas’ prisoner not his willing fiancée. Dr. Tharpe finishes Winona’s surgery and leaves her. She is still weak and falls back asleep.

Winona wakes alone...
