Mason Burgess/The Owner
Mason is first introduced in the beginning of the book. He’s just turned 18 and inherited a fortune from his mother, which is eventually revealed to be a peanut butter recipe. After his inheritance is stolen from him, Mason becomes a very bitter and angry man.
He doesn’t care about the tenants living with him, only keeping them around because he needs their money. Mason shows little concern when the children are put in danger, and he’s more than willing to steal their Talents if it means furthering his own goals.
Mason also displays little care for his own son, Toby, whom he barely even seems to acknowledge. Mason is also known as The Owner of the emporium.
