Summary

Chapter 56

The alarm is pulled, but Zane can see that The Owner is about to steal Cady’s power. He tries to reach her, but he’s still too far away. He pleads with Marigold, asking her to use her stolen Talent to stop The Owner.

Chapter 57

Marigold uses her new Talent, 'spitting', to spit on The Owner’s hand, which knocks a pebble free. The reader learns that he has been using it to steal Talents. The pebble begins to melt because of the sprinklers, shattering The Owner’s dreams.

This chapter continues to set up the conflict between Mason and Cady. Zane knows that the fire alarm isn’t going to be enough to stop Mason, so he pleads with Marigold to use the new Talent she acquired to stop him.
