Chapter 34

The Owner demands to know where Cady is. Toby insists that he won’t let The Owner take Cady’s talent. He’s again reminded of an event that happened in Africa. The Owner insists that they could be rich together, but Toby doesn’t care and vows that he will protect Cady.

Marigold picks up a book that explains what the hairpin is. She discovers that it was actually a bone from a fossil, which supposedly belonged to the oldest and largest bird. Mrs. Asher had picked it up when she was still Talentless and had volunteered at an archeological dig in Africa. She was pregnant at the time and had to leave the dig early.
