Summary

Chapter 16 is titled “Promises.” Brystal is worried about Madame Weatherberry. She is awake when Madame Weatherberry comes home. She looks exhausted and collapses when she gets out of the carriage. Mrs. Vee tends some of the wounds, but Madame Weatherberry insists she is fine and that she fell. Brystal goes to the office and Madame Weatherberry has figured out that Brystal was listening from her room. She says the castle “knew” that Brystal should have the opportunity to listen in. Brystal recounts what she has learned, including that the Snow Queen is a powerful witch who has “covered the kingdom in icy blizzards and caused massive amounts of destruction” (349). The Northern Kingdom's army has not been able to stop her. Brystal believes Madame Weatherberry is trying to stop her in order to gain the world's approval for the magical community.
