Summary

Chapter 5 is titled “Trial by Family.” Brystal was truly terrified as she sat in jail. Brooks arrives, having been assigned to defend her. He is surprised to find his sister because the librarian listed her fake name. He covers up the fact that they are siblings so he will not be removed from her case and manages a few minutes alone with her and says their father is the only person who could possibly help her. Though they agree Justice Evergreen does not love Brystal, Brooks says their father will not want his reputation damaged by having a daughter executed for witchcraft. Brooks gives her an overview of what to expect from the trial. Justice Oldragaid is the judge and he likes to hand out the death penalty. Because Oldragaid hates Justice Evergreen, he will certainly be harsh if he learns Brystal's true...
