Meg Chalmers
Meg Chalmers is thirteen-years-old when she is told by her parents that the family would be closing up their house in a small town in New England and moving to a farmhouse. Meg is stunned. She had lived in the same house all her life. Although the move would be a long one—about a year—it is a temporary change and they will return to their own house. Meg's father is a university professor who is on leave from the school for a year to allow him to finish writing his book.
