James Bowen is a young man who lived in Britain until his parents split up, then spent most of his childhood moving around Australia with his mother. James let his mother's home and spent several years living on the streets of London, usually homeless and focused only on getting the drugs for his next high. By the time James encountered Bob for the first time, he was living in a housing complex set aside for the vulnerable homeless population.
