Chapter 38, Jaime Summary

Jaime Lannister and Brienne Tarth are still at Harrenhal under Lord Roose Bolton. They sit in the bathhouse and insult each other until Jaime apologizes and calls for a truce. He tells Brienne the full story of why he killed King Aerys II.

King Aerys II realized that Robert Baratheon was serious in his attempt to take the Iron Throne. His son, Prince Rhaegar, tried to summon Lord Tywin, the former Hand, from Casterly Rock, but Tywin would not answer. Aerys had his pyromancers put caches of wildfire throughout King's Landing to have in case of attack. Aerys wanted to burn the city instead of letting it fall into Robert's hands.
