Chapter 34, Samwell Summary

Sam and the other survivors are at Craster's Keep. He listens to Gilly, a daughter and wife of Craster, give birth. The survivors number forty-four, and most are wounded. They are angry that Craster will not give them more food. Lord Commander Mormont comes and takes the obsidian dagger from him. Mormont says the Night's Watch used to know how to use obsidian against the Others, but they have forgotten. Craster comes out and announces he has a son. Sam suggests the Watch take the boy, but that only angers Mormont and Craster.

Bannen, a ranger, dies and the men hold a funeral for him. The next day, the men are leaving, and Craster holds a small feast for them. There is still not a lot of food, and the men begin to revolt. Craster lunges at a man and one...
