Chapter 12, Jaime Summary

Jaime, Brienne and Ser Cleos stop at the Inn of the Kneeling Man to eat. They are greeted at the door by a boy with a crossbow, who lets them enter if they leave their swords outside. When the innkeeper learns they are traveling on the river, he says there is a blockage further down the river and they will not get through. The innkeeper tells them to leave their boat and travel by horseback to King's Landing. He also tells them to take a certain path to avoid hostile lands. Jaime is impressed when Brienne smells a trap and takes another path.

While they travel, Jaime reminisces about how he became a Kingsguard. He joined to be near his sister Cersei in King's Landing, but when he joined his father Tywin resigned as the Hand and took Cersei back to...
