Chapters 131 - 135 Summary
Marion wanders further than before, and something hisses close by. She sees the small cub and creeps closer to it talking softly. The lioness has the second cub in her mouth and Marion hears her when she is only fifty yards away, and screams. The lioness launches and overtakes her in five steps, opening her stomach, crushing her vertebrae and bursting both kidneys. Marion keeps screaming as the lioness, confused takes a full minute to find Marion's throat and kill her. She returns to her cub, and Marion's body stays there until Pungushe's wives find her just before sundown. Mark and Pungushe return to sounds of the Zulu death wail.
