Chapters 116 - 120 Summary
Pungushe and Mark backtrack. Dirk has not given up and with dogs, they now search in earnest. Pungushe asks Mark to waylay the dogs and Mark mixes sniff with dried meat, laying it in their path. A good snout full will make them useless. Pungushe calls her in the tomcat's voice. The sound gets her to her feet again and she follows towards the Bubezi Valley. The dogs stop and mill about, unable to continue and Dirk and his hunters are stymied. Mark follows Pungushe, covering their tracks as he goes. They lead the wounded lioness to the Bubezi River to the water she needs. Later Mark tries to explain the miracle he has just witnessed, hardly able to put into words the depth of his feelings. Marion just asks when he'll go to town next for curtains for the kitchen...
