Chapters 36 - 40 Summary
Storm is thrilled about the Cadillac. The General is still thinking about taking the Africa Cup this year. Mark drives the Cadillac to Emoyeni, and when Storm finally walks over, she asks for the keys, insisting he fetch them. Mark tells her he'd be happy to - if she says please. Dicky has to fire him, but tells him to wait a month for the dust to settle and if he isn't employed to come back. He pawns his suit and his Military Medal for gallantry, buys a P.14 and a military haversack and leaves. After five miles of walking, Mark knows how soft he's become. He keeps his distance from Andersland, crossing the river miles upstream. On the third day, he makes thirty miles and by dusk can see Chaka's Gate.
