Chapters 21 - 25 Summary
Fergus is popular at the communist meetings, though he admits to Mark that much of it is rhetoric to motivate them for the coming battle. Mark asks Fergus what they plan to fight with, and is taken down to a cellar that has more weapons than Mark has ever seen before. He feels sick and hardly sleeps that night. He knows he must leave. When he returns one day, he finds Harry Fisher, the Chairman of the party, announcing that Fergus is a new member of the Central Committee and will be gone for two weeks to coordinate other groups. Harry tells Mark they have decided to issue him a party card as well. Mark goes to see Fergus off, and heads to work.
