Words are collected by Felicity throughout the novel and are written down on her shoes and in her blue notebook. Words are noted by Oliver and others as being intensely powerful things that have the power to change the world. Felicity comes to understand this as her spoken words make amends between the shadow-souls of the Brothers Threadbare, and break the century-old curse that has plagued her family.
