Summary
In Chapter 11, Theo had his cheek swabbed for DNA and remembered how desperate he had been to write another book after Ben’s accident. He talked to a police officer who told Theo he was a huge fan of The One Who Got Away, Theo’s third book. Unlike his previous publications, this one was a crime story. He was happy to have written anything, but unprepared for it to become an instant bestseller that garnered all sorts of attention, including claims that he had stolen its premise. He had recently been getting anonymous letters from a man who kept accusing him of stealing his story, and Theo assumed the letters were from Miriam. At the end of the chapter, another excerpt from The One Who Got Away is presented. The killer's perspective is shown before he abducts the two girls.
