Summary
In Chapter Six, Irene waited for Laura, who brought her groceries every Tuesday for ten dollars. She went through the books that Carla had brought her. They belonged to Angela Sutherland, Carla’s sister and Irene’s best friend. Irene loved going through the old books because they contained notes and old scribbles. She turned on the radio and heard that Daniel had died and a young woman was being questioned. She wondered if it was Laura, who Irene had met eight weeks ago when they found Angela’s body together. Irene sometimes refrained from eating and drinking so she would slip into a haze and forget her husband had passed. Confused, she wandered outside into the cold early morning looking for her husband and locked herself outside. She went next door to Angela’s house for help, but then Laura appeared outside...
