Part 2, Chapters 48-51 Summary and Analysis
In her next session, Annie continued her story about her experience with Melanie. Annie noted that sometimes Melanie would react to Annie in different ways. These differences reinforced Annie's fear that Melanie would abandon her one day. Annie admitted that she would sometimes test the relationship with Melanie to see how far she could push things. Annie tells Blumenfeld of a time when she suffered with what she described as a coldness that came from within herself. Annie said that Melanie had found her and taken care of her that night, even putting her to bed. Annie saw these actions as clear proof of Melanie's affection.
