Summary
Beginning on page 91, Stefano walks over to the protagonist to talk to her after he spoke with Maria. Stefano converses with her casually, and in the course of conversation, the protagonist realizes that Stefano now knows the protagonist is in Greece waiting for her husband. She believes he must have heard this from Kostas, Maria, or some other local resident. The protagonist wonders if Stefano knows about Christopher’s possible affair with Maria. Stefano invites the protagonist to dinner with him and his great-aunt. The protagonist declines and wonders if he is eager for her to stay so that she will take Christopher away from Greece and from Maria.
