Summary
In Chapter 39, hundreds of soldiers are walking up a mountain as part of the annual Pilgrimage Day ceremony. Many are walking with a loved one. Kendrick, still hurting from his recent encounter with his mother, is walking with Sandara. He wants to marry her but Sandara says she will return soon to her home, which is far away. Kendrick and the other soldiers pray once they reach the plateau of the mountain and Kendrick’s prayer is that Sandara will agree to marry him. Suddenly, Kendrick realizes that he’s seeing a mass of men descending on King’s Court. He can’t image who the attackers are and knows that he and the other soldiers are too far away to stop the attack.
