Vicky Austin

Vicky Austin is an almost-sixteen-year-old girl with a poet's heart. She is close to her grandfather and shares a love of literature with him. Vicky is also very close to her other family members, particularly her brother John. He is interested in science, and her younger sister wants to be a doctor. Vicky sometimes envies them with their scientific knowledge. While she is staying on the island with her family, there are three boys in her life. They're very different, and she is drawn to them for different reasons.

Vicky knows her grandfather is dying, and she is able to talk with him about death and relationships bluntly. She has the tenacity to stick by him even when times get tough.
