Ensel Summary

As Lanik languishes in his cell, his lover Saranna comes to see him. She knows he never could have done the terrible things the double has done. She takes Lanik to his father, whose name is Ensel, and his father also believes him. Lanik learns that Mother, "the turd," rules the land. She is the second wife of Mueller and has always been hated by Lanik. Lanik, Saranna and his father slip into the castle and Lanik causes an earthquake. Lanik slits Dinte's throat but he knows his brother will regenerate. As they escape, they rest and at last, Lanik and Saranna make love. Lanik learns that the Nkumai have taught Lanik's double to hate Mueller and indeed to hate everyone. The double, using Lanik's name, has caused great devastation in all lands.
