Lanik and Lanik Summary
This chapter is an extended chase scene, as Lanik must descend from the highest branch of the trees where he has been imprisoned. His hands have been bound by cruel bonds, ropes covered with sharp glass, so that if one is to escape, it means taking off the hands or at least part of the hands. No one knows that Lanik is a regenerative however and so he does get loose, severing the little fingers of the hands rather than the thumbs so he will still be able to climb. Lanik knows that these will regenerate although the pain is terrible. Mowa visits him just before he escapes, and pretends to be compassionate but reveals herself to be cruel. She will not help him. When she leaves, and all the soldiers leave as well, Lanik goes ahead and severs...
