Summary

In Chapter 15, Jiichan is very upset that he did not wait for Baachan's return to gives Hanako and Akira their gifts. Baachan is upset that the children have to sleep on the floor. Hanako is so anxious to make them happy that she insists that sleeping on the floor is her “favorite thing to do” and that she doesn't “even like beds” (Location 1042). Both are lies and she cannot seem to stop. She pushes Baachan to let her help with dinner and quickly learns that Baachan has no self-confidence. There is an image at this point, showing Baachan cooking while Hanako stands by with a bowl. Hanako discovers they have dried grasshopper to add protein to their meal.
