Summary
In Chapter 7, Hanako feels certain her father will be able to navigate in Japan because he lived there from the time he was nine until he was eighteen. The morning after their arrival in Japan, everyone rushes to find their possessions among the baggage unloaded from the ship. Hanako knows that the bags are everything the families own, which is why everyone is so desperate. They find Tadashi's and Kagako's bags, but Hanako's and Akira's are missing. Tadashi says that he was separated from his family for a long time, and that the bags are not nearly as important as family.
In Chapter 8, they ride in trucks to the train. Hanako noted some teenage boys who acted as if they were not worried at all, and it makes her walk straighter. They arrive at the depot and board the train. Akira wonders why...
