Hadia
Hadia is one of the four main narrators and the one who is focused on the most throughout the entire novel. She is the oldest in her family, and struggles against the strict nature of her parents and their culture. Hadia is respectful and intelligent, getting A’s on all of her assignments and even getting accepted into medical school just after her high school graduation. As she grows up, Hadia is treated like a son would be in her parent’s culture. She is allowed to go off to school, live on her own, inherits her father’s watch that has been passed down to sons for generations, and even gets to choose her own husband. However, Hadia is aware that her ambition and her jealousy of the leniency her parents showed Amar compared to her is what led to Amar’s bitter relationship with his parents...
