Summary
In first-person, Rafiq speaks as if talking to Amar. He says that Amar had turned purple when he was born. Layla had been calm, but Rafiq had felt helpless. Many people called Amar a miracle, but Rafiq had seen his birth as an omen. Now, a much older Rafiq is in the hospital as Hadia prepares him for an MRI. This is the first time he has seen her at work as she encouraged him to come to her hospital after multiple, blinding headaches. Hadia is a well-respected doctor with two children.
