Summary
A few months before Hadia’s graduation she decides to take Amar and Huda to an ice cream shop as they wait for someone to pick them up. Amar feels like he no longer belongs at school because the kids insult his Islamic background, while also calling him pale. At the mosque, he struggles to listen to any sermon. He remembers one night when Abbas caught Amar outside and they talked about religious stories together. Abbas said Amar would someday leave with Abbas and create a life they wanted. At the ice cream parlor, Amar tells his sisters that a drug dog came to his school and found his locker full of a month worth of spoiled lunches. The girls laugh at the story before Hadia says they have one hour left. They head to an antique shop where Amar plays...
