Summary
As Layla prepares for dinner and Hadia admires the bubble gum wrapper, Rafiq tells Amar that Rafiq’s watch is passed down from father to son. He got it from Amar’s grandfather who none of the children met. Hadia worries about Amar who tries to anger Rafiq to protect her and Huda. Hadia thinks of Abbas and her own understanding of jealousy she learned from Layla’s comments toward other women. The Ali’s are well respected and their mother runs her own business. Their seven-year-old daughter Amira is confident and protected by her older brothers. Amar then announces to Hadia that he is taller than her, horrifying Hadia. Layla says he will be soon as Rafiq smiles behind his newspaper.
In the future just after Amar speaks to Amira, he wishes he could see her again. Haida is preparing...
