Miss Marple remembers Miss Bunner saying she thought that Patrick had tampered with a lamp, and decides to look into it. The lamp is part of a set of a shepherd and a shepherdess, and Miss Bunner could have sworn is was the shepherdess before the incident... Miss Blacklock openly expresses her intense grief with the loss of her friend, "her only link to the past". Craddock expresses annoyance with Miss Marple. After asking Miss Blacklock for an old picture of Sonia Goedler, they discover every photo of the woman disappeared. Faded inscriptions describe pictures with Sonia in them, however, they are no longer there. There were no blank spaces the other day.
