chapters seven and eight Summary
In chapter seven, Craddock interrogates Phillipa Haymes, Colonel and Mrs. Easterbrook, and Mrs. Harmon. Craddock visits Dayas Hall to talk to Mrs. Phillipa Haymes. He finds her in the Apple Orchard. She tells Craddock that she indeed went through the side door and it was unlocked, but she says she locked it when she came in. She said she didn't know anything about the advertisement until she saw the party going on after her bath. She was by the mantelpiece when the shooting occurred. She did not put her hands up. She saw Miss Bunner staring like a ghost, petrified in fear. The man definitely moved the torch, but not as if he was looking for somebody in particular. She says Edmund and Patrick fumbled with their lighters.
