chapter three and four Summary
Chapter three takes place at Little Paddocks. While preparing for guests, Julia, Miss Bunner, and Miss Blacklock lightly discuss the differences in the times of young Julia and the older Miss Blacklock and Miss Bunner. While Julia thinks women stayed home and wrote notes, she learns that Miss Bunner and Miss Blacklock did not have that luxury. Miss Bunner and Miss Blacklock went into the work force. In fact, Miss Blacklock worked for a big financier.
The neighbors arrive at Little Paddocks to take part in what they think is a murder game. They all arrive without mentioning the ad. Instead, they comment on the flowers and other niceties. Only Phillipa Haymes doesn't know about the ad, and only Mrs. Harmon references the murder ad instantly, bluntly asking when the murder will take place. When the clock...
