Sue Klebold
Sue Klebold is the mother of Dylan Klebold, one of the shooters at Columbine High School in 1999 who was responsible for killing 13 people before ending his own life. Sue defines herself as a typical suburban mom prior to the events of April 20, 1999. Forced to overcome the gravity of her son’s actions propelled Sue into a period of denial, shame and guilt. In order to cope, Sue found peace through journaling as she was able to express her innermost feelings in a judgment free way. Initially the surrealism of the event suppressed her ability to understand the reality that she had failed to recognize her son’s depression. As time progressed, however, Sue began able to gradually redefine her identity and purpose in life.
