Limuru

Limuru is located in Kenya, and is the overarching setting for the story. Stanley and Susana move here as a young couple after leaving their home in Fort Hall. In the narrative present, John sees Limuru as a prison. He feels trapped in the village, blaming it for his current condition. Like many boys his age, after receiving his foundational schooling, John plans to leave for university in Uganda. Before departing, however, John must decide whether or not to marry Wamuhu. Throughout the story, he moves frequently between his family hut, the village center, and Wamuhu's home.

Wamuhu's Hut
