Summary
After the woman left, John stood considering her version of faith. Despite how hard she had to work, she seemed happy. He wondered if her strength came from the tribe. He was glad the tribe thought "well of him" (65). Then he remembered his father, again convinced that he would discover his secret. If he was found out, his father and the village would condemn him. He would “lose everything" (65).
At the tea shop, everyone congratulated John. They had read in the paper that he had "finished all the white man's learning in Kenya, and "would now go to Uganda" for university (65).
