Summary
In Chapter 7, Jenna returns for a follow-up appointment with Jerry. A graduate student named Debbie works as his assistant. Jerry says that those with synesthesia are called synesthetes. Jerry begins to explain what's known about synesthesia. He says most people who see colors and shapes with letters and sounds don't see the same colors, though they usually see very similar shapes. Mia realizes that some people might see a name with one color while another synesthete might see it with another color, which explains why Billy didn't see Mia's name the same way she sees it.
At one point, Jerry assures Mrs. Winchell that they can help Mia work around her colors. Mia says she wants to be able to pass her classes but can't imagine her life without colors. Jerry says stimulants lessen the colors while depressants enhance them and a traumatic...
